Saltwater pools used to be the exception, but now they are becoming a very popular method of water treatment in swimming pools. Most builders are now making salt water systems standard on their new pools. And the demand to turn ordinary chlorine pools into saltwater pools is at all time high.
Why have saltwater pools become so popular?
Traditional pools chlorine levels are between 3.0 and 10.0 ppm, while a saltwater pool chlorine level is between 0.5 to 1.0 ppm, making it more comfortable for swimmers. But the real problem is in packaged pool chemicals and the additives and carriers in those chemicals. Swimmers, who claim allergic reactions to chlorine, typically experience no problems when they are in a saltwater pool. The answer isn't the absence of chlorine. Salt systems create their own chlorine, but rather the absence of all the packaged chemicals and by-products in those chemicals.
What is the benefit of a saltwater pool?

What is the down side to a saltwater pool?
It is very important to be careful with regard to water chemistry. With Saltwater Systems it is still necessary to check and balance water chemistry. Not maintaining the chemistry properly will lead to high pH levels, and problems trying to keep the pH down. But in our experience it is simply a matter of keeping the water chemistry balanced.
