Acid Washing / Chlorine Baths
An acid wash becomes necessary if the pool has turned into the "Swamp", or if the Total Disolved Solids (TDS) in the water is excessive. If you can see the bottom of the pool (the floor), or the TDS level is good then it can be resolved with proper chemicals, cleaning, circulation, and filtering. If the TDS level is high, or the floor is not visible, the cost of the chemicals and labor will generally be greater than the acid wash cost.
An acid wash is the process of stripping a very tiny layer of plaster exposing fresh plaster beneath. Pools can also be bleach washed, or given a chlorine bath if the plaster is very thin.
You may also decide on an acid wash to bring out a brighter, whiter, like new finish. For mineral stains and/or deposits, chlorine stains, or even dirt stains, an acid wash is a dramatic appearance improvement.
If your pool seems to grow algae overnight, just bloom very easily, or the pool surface looks dirty even after brushing, changing the water and acid washing the surfaces can give you a like new appearance and an algae free summer.
